Manufacturing Engineering Technician

Rockwood Composites is seeking a skilled and motivated Manufacturing Technician to join our expanding team. This opportunity has arisen due to a growing order book and the launch of exciting new projects across the Aerospace, Medical, Defence, and Cryogenic sectors.

As a key part of our engineering and manufacturing facility, you will work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team, supporting the transition from engineering development to full-scale production. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring new and existing composite components are manufactured efficiently, to the highest quality, and in line with customer and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) efforts and assist in the design of tooling and fixtures for composite component production.
  • Manufacture and assemble composite components in accordance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Generate and maintain production documentation, including work instructions, process guides, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production departments to improve manufacturing processes and support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives.
  • Use Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to monitor project progress, present technical findings, and produce clear, concise reports for internal and customer use.
  • Ensure all production work meets Rockwood’s standards and complies with project deadlines.
  • Act as the link between Engineering and Production, supporting a smooth and effective transition of products into manufacture.

About You:

Proven experience in a manufacturing or engineering technician role, ideally within the composites industry.

  • Strong understanding of composite manufacturing processes and tooling design.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Able to interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills and a methodical, detail-oriented approach.
  • Able to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks to tight deadlines.

Key Skills Experience:

  • Laminating and tooling across a broad range of products.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and industry safety standards
  • Read and understand lay-up specifications.
  • Checking route card instructions are correct.
  • Following processes and ensuring the highest quality is always maintained
  • Use of hand tools.
  • Identify laminating defects.
  • Record daily time spent on jobs on weekly timesheet.
  • Adhering to production schedules.
  • Uphold and promote high standards of workmanship.
  • Assist in other areas of the manufacturing process as directed by the Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain a tidy workstation and working area through basic housekeeping duties.
  • Be accountable for your work, ensuring correct use of PPE.
  • Uphold company HSE standards and report any shortfalls.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use the Microsoft 365 suite of software, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Proven track record and working examples within manufacturing industries

Rockwood prides itself on specialist processes and technologies and appreciate you may not fit the full criteria. On the job training will be provided but it is expected that you come from a production or engineering background, in technical manufacturing.

Knowledge and Experience (Non-Essential but Desired)

  • Knowledge in composites and material selection of Carbon and Glass Fibres.
  • Knowledge of resin system Polyester, Vinylester and or Epoxy.
  • Experience in preparing new tooling for manufacture.
  • Knowledge of the Autoclave manufacturing process.

Salary package negotiable on experience 
40-hour week Monday to Friday
Overtime on offer
Holiday 23 days plus Bank Holidays
